§ 8-416. Duration of building permits.

  • (a)

    A building permit shall be valid for one year from the date of issuance, and reapplication for a new building permit and all ancillary permits shall be required after the expiration of the one-year period, except for the following limitations:

    (1)

    Every permit issued shall become invalid unless the work authorized by the permit is commenced within six months after its issuance.

    (2)

    Every permit issued shall become invalid if the work authorized by the permit is suspended or abandoned for a period of six months, after the time the worked is commenced.

    (3)

    If a required foundation inspection has not been completed during the first six months, the building permit shall stand revoked.

    (4)

    Final inspection must be completed within one year from the date of issuance or the building permit shall stand revoked.

    (b)

    One or more extensions of time, for periods not more than 90 days each, may be allowed for the permit. The extension shall be requested in writing and justifiable cause demonstrated. Extensions shall be in writing by the building official.
